Historically significant Zulu War handwritten letter, as written by Captain Henry F Moorewood at Ulundi on 13th August 1879

Written a few days before the capture of king Cetshwayo of the last Zulu kingdom, written on 13th August 1879 just after the end of the Anglo Zulu war, this letter is a remarkable piece of history. Captain Henry F Moorewood was part of the 57th west Middlesex regiment, famously known as the “die hards”. This letter was written during captain Moorewoods encampment at Ulundi and describes the final stages of the operations leading up to the kings capture and composed by the field officer to Clarkes column. The 5 page letter is fully legible and in good condition despite its age with minor creasing, tears and folds. It was previously part of a distinguished Zulu war collection and has been used by historians and militaria circles for research purposes over the decades.
